ALROSA cuts Jan–Mar diamond production by 17% to 7.4 mln carats

MOSCOW, Apr 20 (PRIME) – ALROSA’s diamond production shrank 17% on the year to 7.4 million carats in January–March due to contraction of output at the Mir mine following a 2017 flood, a lower diamond content in ore of the Yubileynaya pipe, and suspension of open-pit mining at the Udachanaya pipe, the company said in a statement on Friday.

ALROSA’s 2018 diamond production plan stands at 36.6 million carats.

Diamond sales amounted to 13.3 million carats, with revenue from sales of rough diamonds reaching U.S. $1.582 billion and sales of polished diamonds amounting to $23.7 million.
